Housemate ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use the Housemate app.
Information we collect
We collect information you provide directly to us:
- Name and email address when you create an account
- House information including house name and invite codes
- Content you create such as chores, notices, calendar events, and maintenance issues
- Photos you upload for maintenance issues and move-in inspections
- Profile photos you choose to upload
How we use your information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the Housemate app
- Enable you to share information with your housemates
- Send you notifications about chores, updates, and house activity
- Process subscription payments through Apple's App Store
- Respond to your support requests
Information sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only in the following circumstances:
- With your housemates: Information you add to your house (chores, events, notices, maintenance issues) is visible to all members of your house
- Service providers: We use Firebase (Google) for data storage and authentication, and RevenueCat for subscription management
- Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law
Data storage and security
Your data is stored securely using Google Firebase, which uses industry-standard encryption. Photos are stored in Firebase Storage. We implement appropriate security measures to protect your information.
Data retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from the Settings screen in the app, which will permanently delete your personal data.
Push notifications
With your permission, we send push notifications about chore reminders, house updates, and weekly rota changes. You can disable notifications at any time in your device settings.
Children's privacy
Housemate is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate information
- Request deletion of your account and data
- Opt out of non-essential communications
Third-party services
We use the following third-party services:
- Firebase (Google) — authentication, database, and file storage
- RevenueCat — subscription management
- Apple Sign In — optional authentication
- Google Sign In — optional authentication
Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or by email.
